We’ve had nearly two solid months of rain here in the Bay Area, so when hair & make-up artist Rachel Lusk invited me to photograph a styled session she was putting together up at the River Terrace Inn in Napa within a few weeks, I was crossing all my fingers and toes that the skies would behave with us. Not only did we get no such luck, but there were nearby evacuations in effect from all the flooding! I hopped in my car that morning knowing we were going to have to make the best of the grey skies.
Although the drive up to Napa was dark, cold, and rainy- the attitude at our styled session was anything but! I was warmly greeted by Rachel and meet our lovely bride Lauren who was finishing up with her hair and makeup. Shortly thereafter, our wonderful florist, Jessica arrived with her masterpiece of arrangements. Soon the whole room was filled with joy, laughs, and the sweet scent of fresh blossoms. Thankfully by the time I arrived the rain had dissolved to a light mist. I opened the large window doors to our room to let the natural light flood in and got to work. We managed to run out in the mist for a few images once Lauren was dressed in her gown. Although these conditions weren’t ideal, they made for a fantastic learning experience and allowed me to practice serving my clients when the weather takes a turn for the worse while still getting great images.
To Rachel, Lauren, Jessica, and the wonderful River Terrace Inn Gals who were so kind to have us- thank you for allowing me to work alongside you! I absolutely loved getting to meet other wedding professionals and greatly appreciated the chance to practice some new skills! I hope we can someday work together again, but perhaps next time we will be blessed with sunnier skies.
